The wait is over as the 48-hour deadline set by president Kabila expired. Finally, it is the Olenghankoy wing of the Rassemblement which will take up the premiership.

He has been appointed this evening as Badibanga’s successor following Kabila’s address to both houses of parliament on 5 April 2017. Tshibala has spent nearly his entire political career in the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) main opposition party in the DRC whose leader, Etienne Tshisekedi passed away earlier this year. He was UDPS Secretary General when he left the party to join the dissident wing.

He was one of Tshisekedi’s right-hand men.
