At its weekly press conference on Wednesday (September 27th), the United Nations Stabilization Mission of the DRC considered that the effective implementation of the agreement of 31 December 2016 requires the publication, « as soon as possible, » of the electoral calendar.

« It is important to have this calendar because, without it, all that has been acquired, all the hope that led to the adoption of the Agreement on December 31, could fly away, » said Florence Marshall , spokeswoman for the United Nations Country Team in the DRC.

According to Florence Marshall, the New Year’s Eve agreement remains the only road map to lead the country to « free, peaceful, allayed and transparent elections ».

« This country comes from quite a distance, it is time that it can live the peace and that we can all live in the wake of the hope aroused by the Agreement of 31 December 2016, » she stressed.

Florence Marshall also recalled that during the meeting with President Joseph Kabila last Saturday in New York, the United Nations proposed their support for the efforts of the Congolese Government to organize, within a reasonable time, credible and transparent elections.
