Establishing clear guidelines for a peaceful electoral process without human rights violations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), such is the objective of the Inter-Institutional Consultations on Human Rights and Elections in the DRC started Tuesday 20 June by the  United Nations Joint Human Rights Office (UNJHRO) in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), the Higher Council for Audiovisual and Communication (CSAC) and the National Commission of Human Rights (CNDH).

Taking the floor, the Coordinator of the Field Team Office in Kinshasa for the UNJHRO, Mr. Halidou, dwelt on the human rights situation on the eve of the elections in the DRC. For him, the election of the leaders of the institutions at the local and national level constitutes a solid foundation for the consolidation of the rule of law and of peace.

In his turn, the CENI protractor, Jean Pierre KALAMBA, discussed the protection of human rights in electoral processes. According to him, by identifying and enlisting voters through the Revision of the Electoral Record, the CENI has placed itself in a straight line of the promotion and protection of the civil and political rights of citizens and Fundamental freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution in its articles 11 to 33 and the International instruments to which the DRC has subscribed.

For its part, CSAC President, Tito Ndombi, has reassured that his institution, as an independent administrative authority, is an original response by the authorities to the need to regulate and protect freedoms and to promote individual and public freedoms in the the media sector.
