The Congolese rebel movement M23, based in Uganda, denies its involvement in the latest attacks which opposed an unidentified but heavily armed group of armed forces to the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC).

« We have nothing to do with the clashes of Beni … The M23 did not participate in these operations that caused trouble and desolation in the city of Beni, » said Elie Mutela, Director of the Office of the President of the M23 to the microphone of the Radio France Internationale (RFI), a few hours ago.

These clashes with heavy weapons in Beni, in the great North Kivu in the east of the DRC, killed three FARDC soldiers, 13 in the ranks of the assailants and many wounded among civilians.

According to the radio, a mysterious National Movement for the Revolution has claimed responsibility for the attack. On the spot, the radio said, there was talk of a coalition of Mai Mai groups with ADF, FDLR, prisoners escaped from Beni prison and ex-M23.
