Felix Tshisekedi, the deputy secretary general for external relations of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), will be the candidate of this political group at the next presidential election. This was announced by the spokesman of this political party.
« I confirm. This is the wish of the UDPS base. The base expressed its desire to see Felix Tshisekedi to run for the the helm of State and to lead the UDPS. What interest do I have to oppose? We also said that this will be expressed during the congress. The spokesman of the UDPS invites its members to take their pain patiently while waiting for the organization of the Congress, which will have to rule on this issue. But already, he has reassured more than one that the Congress is not going to oppose the will of the base.

Regarding these ballots, the holding of which is not known according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), the current leader of the UDPS has called for a short transition without President Joseph Kabila if elections are not held as scheduled on 31 December.
